NVOCC hands over operation to project cargo specialist
Allseas Global Logistics has taken over the UK agency of US-headquartered non-vessel-operating common carrier Ocean World Lines (OWL).
The deal will see OWL hand over responsibility for its entire UK agency operation to Newark-based Allseas, which has also taken on five members of OWL UK staff, previously based in Ipswich.
Allseas Commercial Manager Mark Binge said the deal would benefit customers of both companies and would bring greater market influence and improved buying power.
Tied in with this move, Allseas will open a new office in Dubai, with Paula Bellamy, former General Manager of OWL UK, heading-up the new venture.
Allseas currently operates from four offices in the UK and one office in Antwerp.
Binge said: “This is a really big stride forward for Allseas and we are very excited about the new opportunities it brings.
“There is excellent synergy between OWL and Allseas. The OWL staff will bring many years of experience in various aspects of logistics.
“OWL predominantly carries cargo of all kinds, including air freight, which sits really well with our own activities as a specialist mover of project and out-of-gauge cargo.
“This gives us increased buying power in the marketplace and will, therefore, make our competitive position even stronger.”
Allseas said the opening of a permanent office in Dubai reflected its strength in the oil and gas project cargo sector and also the increasing importance of Dubai as a gateway to the Indian subcontinent.
